Friday Floral – Red, White & Green

December 16, 2011

Red, white and green.  Classic holiday colors for this time of year.  I found some beautiful bouquets at the Farmer’s Market on Tuesday with a nice selection of flowers and greens so I bought two and brought them home to ponder how I should arrange them.   I don’t know what a couple of the plants are in the bouquets, but I did like the overall color scheme which seemed very rich and a bit formal.  I also have an old trophy urn that has oxidized and looks grayish which I thought would be a nice undertone for the arrangement.  I used pebbles as the stability for the flowers and greens instead of Oasis which makes me happy.    Here’s the finished product:

Holiday arrangement

This is one of those times when the arrangement looks better in real life than in the photos but you get the idea.  The whole arrangement is about 18 inches high.  I love the trophy urn – I found it at a garage sale a few years ago.   I’m still undecided about whether I like the puffy white flower down so low, but I was trying to be adventurous and not so predictable as I tend to be with floral arranging.   It was fun to do and will be nice color for the holidays.   TGIF!

Hello Leslie, I love the urn it reminds me of the Old “I love Lucy” show when she put the urn on her head and it got stuck! :) I like the arrangement, good overall design and layout. It looks like the green bigger leaves with pink buds are a Calif Native Rhus, Sugar bush. Love the Queen’s lace on rim.
I’ve just discovered your wonderful blog by searching November gardening chores. Thank you for doing that, it helps a lot, Pat Welsh and Sunset are the only other sources I’ve found.
