Fungus Amongus!

I’m not a huge fan of Carob Trees (Ceratonia siliqua), but I don’t like to see a healthy tree go down.  This Carob tree is spawning a spectacular fungus, which is really quite beautiful, but  I’m assuming this doesn’t bode well for the tree.

Leslie, I don’t know if those fungi are bad for the tree. I thought that fungi were in general not parasites; they just make their home there. I don’t want to have any reason to dislike them, they are so appealing. How many things do you have coming naturally among your flora that remind you of life on other Mars?

Vicki, I hadn’t considered that the fungus wasn’t bad for the tree, but now I have to rethink and do some more research! I have actually seen this fungus on three other carob trees around Coronado so I’m curious to know if it’s harmful or not. Love your blog!!! Leslie
