by Leslie Crawford on April 29, 2009Thank you

Bees work hard! Think about these facts the next time you see a bee.

Honeybees visit 2,000,000 flowers to make a pound of honey.
A hive of bees flies 55,000 miles to bring us a pound of honey.
The average worker honeybee makes 1 1/2 tsp of honey in its lifetime.

Scented geranium flowers

by Leslie Crawford on April 27, 2009Thank you

This is one of those plants that I don’t really pay attention to and its pot gets stuck in a corner most of the time. Then one day it will explode with blossoms and I’ll find it in the yard, like a gift I wasn’t expecting. I snapped this picture this morning. These are a beautiful color with such perfect detail, but I guess that pretty much describes all flowers, doesn’t it?!

I spent the day walking the Pt Loma Garden Tour. It was 16 gardens and even a couple of home interiors – a little over 3 miles of walking within sight of the ocean at Sunset Cliffs. It was a beautiful day and I got a lot of pictures of ideas I saw as I [...]

Earth Day – April 22

by Leslie Crawford on April 22, 2009Thank you

My son reminded me that today is Earth Day. Started in 1970, the goal of Earth Day is to inspire awareness and appreciation for our Earth’s environment. This year’s global theme is The Green Generation. As a gardener, I’d like to think that all the effort I put into it makes a difference!

Correction – 98 degrees!!!

by Leslie Crawford on April 21, 2009Thank you

Lindbergh Field reported 98 degrees yesterday!!! I gave everything an extra watering today plus a little washdown just so the leaves could hydrate a little. I think I heard gulping around the yard! Fortunately, it is beautiful and temperate today so I hope the worst is behind us.

94 degrees!!!

by Leslie Crawford on April 20, 2009Thank you

Whew, it was hot today! Yesterday’s high was 84 degrees and it was a roaster, but today was worse. Our thermometer said 94 degrees at 4:30 this afternoon. I deep-watered early this morning but I might have to do it again tomorrow. This heat is hard on the plants and me!
