Botany of Desire

by Leslie Crawford on November 9, 2009Thank you

If you didn’t get the chance to watch the Botany of Desire on PBS you can watch the full video on PBS’s site. The program is based on the book of the same name by Michael Pollan. In addition to the full length program, there are bonus videos, interviews and other interesting information. Go to the Botany of Desire page on the PBS website.

I did manage to see this program and have read most of his books. Michael Pollan is a brilliant writer and the program did a great job of explaining some of the huge food and food production issues of our time, how we got here and the fairly grim reality of what the future may hold if we continue on our current path as a society. Luckily, it is all done with such a masterful sense of the beauty and complexity of our natural world, that you really leave the program and the book feeling uplifted. He is a true advocate for the local food movement. One of Michael Pollan’s mantras is, “Eat food, not to much, mostly plants.” Also, eat only those things that your grandmother would recognize as food. It just so happens that these ideas are also excellent advice for good health!
