I filled up my little hummingbird feeders last week as soon as the hummers emptied them out – again. It’s been an ongoing job since July, but all of a sudden, this week, the hummingbirds aren’t coming to the backyard anymore. I’m not sure if they’ve left town for the season, or if they lost their home due to the major tree trimming in my neighbor’s yard last week. Anyway, I think it’s time to put the hummingbird feeders away for a couple of months.
As far as the other birds, I wrote about feeding them in the garden a couple of weeks ago and have since put out non-melting suet and black sunflower seeds for the visitors with wings. So far, not seeing a lot of action, but I’m assuming I’ll see waves of feeding as the colder weather sets in. There is a great article about feeding birds in a blog I like to read called ‘Life on the Balcony.’ I’m hoping that once I get my fountains back up and running, the birds will be even more enticed to visit.
